Today was the first time I really felt like I made progress with a student that I’ve been working with for months. Maybe that’s exaggerating a little, but today something clicked for me that never clicked before.
Would you like to know what it was? It wasn’t about my student. It was about me. I managed myself differently during my class today, and it really worked.
The Lesson I’m learning: great teaching requires you to know how to manage your students. But even more importantly, and perhaps often overlooked: Great teaching requires that you learn how to master yourself.
Normally, I plan my lessons to help bring structure and direction to the class, but today I planned my lesson to help bring structure and direction to myself.
What have been some of your biggest realizations as a teacher?
