Have you ever wondered if there is a good and bad way to study English? Is there a way to do things so that you learn more effectively and faster? There are some easy and practical things you can do today to help you study English more effectively. If you want to know what they are, just keep reading!
Tip #3 Show Up to Class On Time.
Amazing things happen when you arrive to your English class on time! You might get extra time with just your teacher.
Fact: few people show up to their English class on time.
If you started arriving on time to class, you could get 5 or 10 minutes of ‘private time’ with your teacher. You could ask about problems you might be having in learning English, pronunciation issues, grammar questions, or maybe just get some conversation practice going. The sky is the limit.
Is your company paying for your classes? If you are arriving on time to class, your company’s HR department will love you. (IF you get great grades, they’ll love you even more!)
One of the causes of people not being able to continue with their classes is that they just don’t show up on time. Human Resource departments don’t like that. If you repeatedly show up late, you could find that your ‘English class benefit’ gets cut.
Tip #2 Don’t wait for your teacher.
You don’t have to wait to be in class to practice your English. You don’t need your English teacher all the time either. Look for ways to increase your contact with English OUTSIDE of class. The more contact you have = the more you’ll learn and faster.
Watch TV or movies in English. (Only English subtitles allowed.) Listen to your favorite singer or band in English, and try to understand the words. The goal: everyday contact in English of 15 to 20 minutes each.
Tip #1: USE IT.
If you really want to practice English effectively, you have to use it. Sounds obvious, right? But I know students who work hard in class, but never use their English skills outside of class. That doesn’t work.
The students that I have who work hard in class AND who use their English outside of it, are the ones who have made the most drastic improvements. So make sure you’re taking risks and using your English! It will make a big difference for you, I promise.
